Serenity Practice

Serenity is the ability . . .
stay centered. . . to stay centered and connected to yourself regardless what happens in your external surroundings.

Therefore, it has nothing to do with suppressing emotions like anger or jubilation. Serenity does not promote to “grin and bear it."

Keep space inside of you
keep space inside of youThe connectedness to your inner center brings peace in the midst of your sadness, confusion or joy. Serenity can be described as keeping “space” inside of you and around your emotions and thoughts even if: Your supervisor yells at you, you are stuck at an airport, your child comes home with a failing grade, or your computer crashes.

This “spaciousness” in your mind prevents you from reacting. You do not allow anybody or anything to make you say or do something you might regret later. It prevents you from getting defensive, aggressive, or reacting predictably.

Serenity gives you the freedom of choice in how to deal with a given situation.

Let your potential unfold
inner freedom
Serenity is a leadership quality. Those in leading positions in corporations, government, communities, and churches are only able to fulfill their duties creatively and constructively with Serenity, with a “cool head’ and with a connection to the center within.

Serenity, however, is the quality of everybody who masters life instead of succumbing to its conditions. With peace and spaciousness within, which is derived from connection to your center, you allow your energy, your potential, and your productivity to unfold.

We can generate the shift from our normal state of slight anxiety and unease to calmness in a couple of moments. Just as lying down on the table of an experienced massage therapist can release all the accumulated tension we were holding; likely closing the eyes for a moment and taking a couple of deep breaths, or silently repeating your calmness phrase of Autogenic Training can reconnect us with our inner center and the “vastness of being.”

Let it be your constant companion
serenity as a companionSerenity as a constant companion that prevents you from accumulating tension in the first place does not come overnight to you. You need to practice and to cultivate it. It is like learning a foreign language. When you apply it on a regular basis, you will become fluent in it, and you will be able to resort to it whenever needed.

Whether you wish to have a key that opens the realm of inner peace to you on an learn to relax“as needed basis” or whether you desire to cultivate serenity as a constant companion, you will find the Serenity Practices helpful.

The Serenity Practices presented here are either a physical or a mental exercise, or a combination of both.

Pick one of the here-suggested exercises and practice it for at least four weeks on a regular basis, at best daily. Do resist the temptation to practice all the previous exercises at once. Again, pick the one you like and stick to it for about a month.

Please share your experiences. Write to practice@developserenity.com.
